Ministerial Moves

 

Glenn Canup began serving as minister of adult education at North Metro First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville in September. Prior to North Metro, Canup served as minister of new member assimilation at First Baptist Church, Atlanta. He is joined by his wife, Linda, who is employed by In Touch Ministries.

 

After serving as pastor of First Baptist Church Washington for the past six years John Childers has accepted the pastorate of South County Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo. Childers previously served as pastor of First Baptist Vienna and as associate pastor of First Baptist Monroe. In addition, he represented Houston Baptist Association and Georgia Association on the Georgia Baptist Convention Executive Committee. He will be joined in Missouri by his wife, Jeannie, and daughters, Amy and Jennifer.

 

Steve Forsythe resigned as pastor at Falling Creek Baptist Church in Elberton effective Nov. 6.

 

Bill Landers was called as minister of music on Aug. 14 at Wax Baptist Church in Floyd County Association. He is joined by his wife, Teresa. Ted Fuller is pastor.

 

Wax Baptist Church in Floyd County Association called Eric Lefevers as part-time minister of youth in May. He is joined by his wife, Melissa. Ted Fuller is pastor.

 

After serving since April 1995 Swayne Poole announced his retirement as associational missionary for the Flint River Baptist Association effective Dec. 31. A walk-in reception will be held in his honor at Southside Baptist Church in Griffin on Jan. 8, 2006 from 2-4 p.m. He will be available for interim pastoring after his retirement and can be reached at (770) 227-0155 or swpoole@bellsouth.net.

 

Jon Maish was recently appointed by the North American Mission Board and will be serving in Morgantown, W. Va. as a collegiate evangelism missionary at West Virginia University. Maish, a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Valdosta, previously served as a campus minister intern for the Valdosta State University Baptist Student Union.

 

Landon and Cristy Reesor were recently appointed by the North American Mission Board and will serve in Stamford, Conn., where Landon will be a core church planting missionary and pastor. Previously, he worked as director of global outreach ministries at Midway Macedonia Baptist Church in Villa Rica.

 

Michael Springstead recently accepted a call as youth director at Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta.

 

Rick Standard resigned as director of missions for the Sarepta Baptist Association after serving six years and was called as pastor of Briarwood Baptist Church in Watkinsville.

His last day with the association is Nov. 15. Standard currently serves as president of the Associational Missionaries’ Fellowship and president of the board of directors of Penfield Christian Home.

He is a graduate of Shorter College and New Orleans Seminary. He has been in ministry for 32 years and has served as pastor of Winterville First Baptist Church, Dykes Creek Baptist Church in Rome, Moon’s Grove Baptist Church in Danielsville and Lucerne Baptist Church in Lilburn.

 

Elberton First Baptist Church in Hebron Association called Greg Ware as minister of students and church recreation beginning Sept. 21.

He is joined by his wife, Christy, and their family.
