Travis B. Cowart, Sr. was recognized on Jan. 1 by his family and church upon the 45th anniversary of his ordination. Cowart was ordained by Ludowici First Baptist Church on Jan. 1, 1961 at the age of 19 when he was pastor of Hagan Baptist Church in the Tattnall-Evans Association. The Cowart children presented their father with a plaque and sang “Thank you for giving to the Lord.” They shared ways that their parents’ ministry had influenced their own lives.

The Cowarts have one son, Travis, Jr.; three daughters, Alison Cornwell, Susan Cox and Karen Newsome; and eleven grandchildren. Cowart currently serves as bi-vocational pastor of Powers Baptist Church in Eden and as an assistant principal in Chatham County public schools.
