At the Sept. 12 meeting of the Executive Committee, members approved a motion from Wayne Robertson to amend the constitution of the Georgia Baptist Convention, Article VI, Section 7. The motion was seconded and adopted. The recommendation to amend (see below) will be a part of the Report of the Executive Committee to be voted on at the annual meeting of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
The Executive Committee recommends that the constitution of the Georgia Baptist Convention be amended by deleting a portion of one sentence in Article VI, Section 7, of the constitution. The portion to be deleted is shown as a strike-through in the following sentence: “A person nominated to the Convention by the Committee on Nominations shall be an active member of a Georgia Baptist church
; however, this provision shall not apply to nominees for trustees where the committee is required to nominate from names received from the institution.” If the amendment is approved, the complete sentence will then read: “A person nominated to the Convention by the Committee on Nominations shall be an active member of a Georgia Baptist church.” This amendment is recommended because the portion of the sentence to be deleted was applicable only to Mercer University and not needed since Mercer is no longer an institution of the convention.
