Our misson: serving, caring for children and their families

I am honored to serve as chairman of the Board of Trustees this year for Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries. This ministry, which has existed more than 136 years, has offered hope and healing to thousands of young people throughout the years. What an awesome way to serve our Lord -– by caring for His children! Every day at the Children’s Home we are given the opportunity to help a child believe in a better life and we are encouraged that lives are being transformed in our programs every day.

Last year, we served hundreds of children in residential programs. Fifty-five young people dealing with substance abuse were helped through our Nelson Price Treatment Center. Seventeen young ladies found hope through our maternity program located on our Palmetto Campus.

Our emergency shelters opened their doors to 241 children, who were rescued from abusive situations. And 135 children with developmental disabilities experienced summer camp fun through Camp Hawkins in Mt. Airy. Most importantly, 88 of our residents asked Jesus to come into their hearts and lives.

This year, we look forward to serving many children and families through these programs and at our recently acquired farm-based residential facility for boys and therapeutic riding center in Warm Springs – Good Shepherd Center. This facility offers healing of the heart, mind, and spirit through a wide range of animal related therapy programs.

But we couldn’t continue to do this ministry without the prayers and support of all of you. On May 13, we will recognize Children’s Home Day. I encourage you as churches to order materials, learn more about us, and find out how you can become involved in our ministry.

As Christians we are commissioned to go and share what we believe. Today is your chance to help us share the love of Jesus Christ with the children in our care.
