Sharpton tapped as agency president elect

Baptist Village Retirement Communities trustees have elected Delos L. Sharpton as the next president/CEO of Georgia Baptist's oldest and largest ministry to senior adults. Sharpton will assume the position upon the retirement of current President/CEO J. Olan Jones who has served for thirty-five years, the last twenty-three as administrator and president/CEO.

Though no date for the retirement of Jones has been set, the election of Sharpton was done to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Sharpton has served Baptist Village as vice president of administration for the last five years. With this new designation he will assume the title of executive vice president.

The Georgia Baptist Convention opened Baptist Village in 1958 on the campus in Waycross as a response to the needs of seniors for housing and care. Today Baptist Village cares for more than 600 residents at nine facilities in Waycross, Macon, and Lake Park. These facilities provide independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care.

Sharpton and his wife, Margie, have three grown children and two granddaughters.
