Ministerial Moves

 

Chris Gantt has been called as student minister at Wolffork Baptist Church in Rabun Gap. Gantt, a transfer student at Toccoa Falls College, grew up in Cherryville, NC, west of Charlotte. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Gaston Community College in Dallas, N.C., and has worked in various correctional positions with the North Carolina Department of Corrections and the Gaston County Sheriff's Department.

Gantt, along with his wife, Deedrah and their 19-month-old son, Mason, moved to the area during the summer. Richard Daley is pastor of the church.

 

Melvin Slappy has been called as pastor of Sasser Baptist Church in Summerhill Association. He and his wife, Kathy, are 1977 graduates of Tennessee Temple University. They are the parents of eight children, three of which are still at home.

 

Jason Stockton began his ministry as pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church on Aug. 10. Stockton is a graduate of Coosa High School, University of Georgia, and Southeastern Seminary. He is joined by his wife, Amy. Fellowship is part of Floyd County Association.

 

DeSoto Park Baptist Church has called Javan and Christy Thomas as their new youth directors and Pete Culbreth as choir director. Scott Lambert is pastor. DeSoto Park is part of Floyd County Association.

 

Bobby Robinson, pastor of Unity Baptist Church in LaGrange for the past thirty years, retired from the church on Sept. 30.

 

Elberton First Baptist Church has called Stephen Martin May as minister to students. He is a graduate of Mississippi College and has a masters degree in Christian education with youth concentration from Southwestern Seminary. The church is part of Hebron Association.

 

Victory Baptist Church has called Danny Garrett as its pastor. Victory is part of West Metro Association.

 

Hugh Copeland began his ministry as pastor of Head River Baptist Church on Sept. 7. The church is part of Lookout Valley Association.

 

New Covenant Baptist Church called Lanham Gregg as minister of youth effective Sept. 7. Mike Gregg is pastor. New Covenant is part of Northwest Georgia Association.

 

Tyrone First Baptist Church has called Greg Weaver as youth minister. Greg and his wife, Layne have one daughter, Morgan and two sons, Evan and Cameron. Tyrone is part of Fairburn Association.

 

Lisa James has been added to the staff at Tyrone First Baptist Church as part-time financial secretary. She and her husband, Keith have two children - Ashley and Zach.

Rod Woolson has been called as pastor of maturity and discipleship at Park Place Church in Stone Mountain Association. Woolson is a U.S. Navy veteran and a student at Southern Seminary. He and his wife, Cheryl, have three children.

 

Pete Culver has been called as director of youth ministries at Park Place Church in Stone Mountain Association. He and his wife, Laurie, have one daughter, Amber.

 

Highland Baptist Church of Flint River Association has called Karl Oetting as pastor.

 

New Salem Baptist Church of Flint River Association has called Chris Vaughn as music director.

 

Orchard Hill Baptist Church of Flint River Association has called Charles Kinney as part-time music director.

 

DeVotie Baptist Church of Flint River Association has called Stephen Stringer as pastor.

 

Avondale Estates First Baptist Church in suburban Atlanta has called Rance Parker as minister of students.

 

Dunwoody Baptist Church has called Mack Hannah as pastor. Dunwoody is part of Atlanta Metro Association.

 

Wieuca Road Baptist Church has called Dale Doud as children's minister. He previously served at Gainesville First Baptist Church. Wieuca Road is part of Atlanta Metro Association.

 

Ron A. Milne has been called as pastor of Briarwood Baptist Church in Watkinsville. Milne previously served as senior pastor of Springfield First Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina, his master's degree from Southwestern Seminary, and his doctorate from Southeastern Seminary. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have four children, Caleb, Aaron, Leanne, and Christina.

 

Bucky Kennedy became the 28th pastor in the 129 year history of Vidalia First Baptist Church on Oct. 5. He is a graduate of Brewton-Parker College and Georgia Southern University and has completed two years of study at Mid-America Seminary in Memphis, Tenn. Kennedy has also pastored Riverbend Church in Gainesville and has served the Southern Baptist Convention in various positions at the national, state and associational level. Kennedy and wife, Stacey have a daughter, Hannah and a son, Ivey.

 

Chad Pollard began his ministry as associate pastor of worship at Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta on Oct. 12. He is joined by family members Dawn, Cameron and Cody.
