Bill Marshall, for whom Southwestern Seminary’s extension center in San Antonio is named, died Oct. 23 from complications from pneumonia. He was 79.

Marshall was director of the extension center from 1985-2000; it was named as the William R. Marshall Center for Theological Studies in 2006. Marshall also played a role in establishing the center in 1976.

Marshall is survived by two daughters, Susan and Angie. His wife of 55 years, Nell, died earlier this year.


Oklahoma Baptist University’s board of trustees has elected David W. Whitlock, associate provost and dean of the college of business and computer science at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., as the school’s 15th president.

Whitlock assumed the presidency of the 98-year-old school Nov. 3.

A fifth-generation Oklahoman, Whitlock taught business for 14 years at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla., until joining the faculty of Southwest Baptist University in 1999.
