Danny H. Parris will retire at the end of May as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Blairsville. He has served at the church for 15 years.
Parris served fourteen years at Southside Baptist Church in Griffin before coming to Blairsville. He also served Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Turtletown, Tenn.; Morganton Baptist Church in Morganton; Maurepas Baptist Church in Louisiana; and Alapaha Baptist Church in Alapaha.
Parris began his ministry in October 1961. He is a native of Fannin County, as is his wife, the former Regina Arp. They have two children and four grandchildren.
Parris is a graduate of Truett-McConnell College and received his bachelorís degree from North Georgia College in Dahlonega. He received his master of theology degree from New Orleans Seminary.
Parris served as moderator of Morganton Baptist Association, Flint River Baptist Association, and Notla River Baptist Association. He has also served on numerous committees within the association and on the state level, including three terms on the state executive committee. Parris is presently serving on the board of directors for The Christian Index.
In retirement, he and his wife will continue to make their home in Blairsville. He will be available for interim pastor, pulpit supply, and other ministries.
H. William Perry will retire as pastor of First Baptist Church of Statesboro on Feb. 29, where he has served since 1981. He has also served as pastor at First Pelham and First Hawkinsville. Perry received his doctorate of ministry from Southern Seminary.
His service to the Georgia Baptist Convention includes a term as president of the Pastors Conference, a member of the Executive Committee and Administration Committee; chairman of the board for The Christian Index; chairman of trustees for the Georgia Baptist Childrenís Home and Family Ministries; and chairman of the Committee on Nominations.
