William Earl Cropper, 78, died May 4.

Cropper, a graduate of Southern Seminary, served churches in Kentucky and Tennessee before moving to Atlanta in 1972 to serve as pastor at Capitol View Baptist Church and Bethsaida Baptist Church in Riverdale. The two churches eventually merged to become United Baptist Church.

After retirement, Cropper became an active member at Mountain Park Baptist Church in Lilburn.

He is survived by his wife Jeannine and sons David, of Lilburn, and Stephen, of Pittsburgh, Pa.


Lawrence Franklin Kirk, Sr., died May 16. He was 66.

A native of Marietta, Kirk had recently retired after 21 years as pastor of Byron Baptist Church. He had previously served as

pastor at Appalachee Baptist Church, Harmony Baptist in Monroe, Zion Hill Baptist in Buford, Calvary Baptist in Augusta, and Calvary Baptist in Meridian, Miss. In addition, he had served as moderator of Rehoboth Association.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sherrow Herrington Kirk, of Byron; daughters Desiree Cosden, of Augusta, and Tiffany Kirk, of Warner Robins; son Lawrence F. Kirk, Jr., of Byron; mother Janetle Orr Kirk, of Kennesaw; brother Stan Kirk, of Kennesaw; biological father Thomas Vernon, of Villa Rica; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Major C.S. Kirk.
