When I have the opportunity to spend time with my children and grandchildren, I am always reminded of what a precious gift God has given us – the gift of children.
|Children’s Home Mother’s Day Offering May 9th|
I was privileged to have been raised in a Christian home with loving parents, as were my children and grandchildren, but I realize this is not the case for many of the children who come to live at our Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes. Luke 12:48 tells us that “to whom much has been given, much shall be required.”
Through the years many of us in Woman’s Missionary Union have had opportunities to be involved in the lives of children at our Children’s Homes. Just as with our own children and grandchildren, it is so special to watch a child’s eyes light up through expressions of love – a hug, a smile, a party, and especially the gift of spending time with them.
Our Georgia WMU Vision statement states that “Because we believe God is Who He says He is and can do what He says He will do, we are empowered to engage a lost world through prayer, ministry, and witness that will be modeled, taught, and nurtured among future generations.” The “future generations” are not just the children in our own families and churches, but also the children who are residents of our Children’s Homes.
Our responsibility is to see that they have a “brighter tomorrow” just as much as we want this for our own children and grandchildren. We may not have the day-to-day contact with these precious children who are gifts from God, but we can help to “Build a Brighter Tomorrow” for them as we “who have been given much” share what we have as we give generously to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home Day Offering on May 9.
