ROME — Shorter University Trustee Chairman Nelson Price has announced the formation of a Presidential Search Committee that will be tasked with selecting the university’s 19th president. Shorter President Harold E. Newman recently announced his retirement plans on or before the end of his present contract, which continues through June 2012.
As outlined in the university’s bylaws, the search committee includes the board of trustees chairman, the chairman of the board’s Finance and Investment Committee, the Executive Director of the Georgia Baptist Convention, four members of the Board of Trustees, two tenured faculty members, one staff member, two alumni, and one student representative.
Individuals named to the committee are Lamar Barden, vice president with Peachtree Planning Corp.; Carmen Acevedo Butcher, scholar-in-residence at Shorter University; Bob English, retired builder with ADE; Daniel Drewski, a student at Shorter University; Cliff Duren, associate minister of music at First Baptist Church, Woodstock; and Nancy Garnett, a retired business owner; Ken Guice, vice president of United Community Bank in Rome; Darrell Henry, pastor, Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga; Stephanie Owens, vice president for finance and chief financial officer at Shorter; Sabrena Parton, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Shorter; Nelson L. Price, pastor emeritus, Roswell Street Baptist Church, Marietta; Nolan Robinson, retired vice president, Chick-fil-A; and J. Robert White, executive director, Georgia Baptist Convention round out the committee.
