Ministerial Moves


Members of Black Jack Baptist Church in Bowen Association recently welcomed Billy Joe Butler as pastor. He is joined by his wife, Linda. Previously he served as pastor of several churches in Alabama and Georgia and as the chaplain to the Alabama State Troopers.


Scot Luman recently began as student pastor at Cherokee Baptist Church in Woodstock. He is joined by his wife, Katie.


Beech Haven Baptist pastor Stewart Simms, Jr., has announced his retirement from active ministry after 30 years at the Athens church effective Jan. 8, 2012.

During his ministry in Georgia, Simms served two terms on the GBC Executive Committee and has been a trustee of Truett-McConnell College. In 2010 he served as Georgia Baptist Convention vice president. Before coming to Beech Haven, he was a pastor in Texas and South Carolina for more than ten years. Beginning in February 2012, he will be available for revivals, supply preaching, and interim pastorates.


Madison Baptist Church recently called Charles R. Smith as pastor. Previously, Smith served in Hampton, VA. His first Sunday in Madison was Aug. 28.
