First Baptist Church of Blakely recently celebrated the 175th anniversary of the church’s founding and the 100th anniversary of its sanctuary.
The Oct. 21 homecoming service featured guest speaker and former youth pastor Mark Worsley. Bruce and Valerie Pafford, former worship pastor and church pianist, also took part in the service, which was opened by interim pastor Robin Jumper and moderated by associate pastor Ron Phillips.
Members who had been attending the church the longest were recognized. There were more than 20 who had been members at least 40 years and four whose attendance exceeded 70 years. One member, Annette Chapman, brought a copy of her 89-year-old Cradle Roll Certificate, dated 1923.
