J. Aubrey Estes, a member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church in Macon, celebrated his 100th birthday Oct. 24.

Estes, a native of Meriweather County, earned degrees at Mercer and Southern Seminary before pastoring churches in South Carolina and then Georgia.

While in South Carolina, Estes taught extension classes for Southern Seminary.

For more than 25 years he taught off-campus classes for Mercer University in Tifton before moving to Macon and teaching on-site extension classes for the university. He also served as an Index representative to several associations.

After retiring in 1973, Estes continued to provide pulpit supply until 2002, when he was 98 years old.

On Oct. 24 Estes was also presented a doctor of divinity by Mercer President R. Kirby Godsey and life membership into the president's club.
