Lucius Robuck Burch, Jr., 74, of Eastman died Dec. 13 at his home.
One who left a broad range of influence, Burch served as pastor of 16 Georgia Baptist churches over 53 years. His ministry was bolstered by degrees earned at Mercer University, Southwestern Seminary, New Orleans Seminary, and the University of South Africa.
In addition, Burch served as a Bible professor at Brewton-Parker College, Tift College, and Luther Rice Seminary during a course of 18 years. Calvary Baptist in Eastman, founded under his leadership, was his last church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Lou Holdway Burch, of Eastman; daughters Melissa Furno, of Yadkinville, NC, and Tanya Castillo, of Allen, TX; sons Buck Burch, of Loganville, who serves in the Cooperative Program Department of the GBC, and Jarrett Burch, of Eastman, a noted Georgia Baptist pastor and historian; a sister, Mary Elaine Bowman, of Jeffersonville; and ten grandchildren.
