Georgia pastor Rudy Patton, 66, died Feb. 14 in Hiawassee after a long illness.
Patton served as pastor of Britt David Baptist Church in Columbus and Unity Baptist in Newnan in addition to congregations in Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina. His last pastorate was McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, where he served for 12 years before his retirement in 2008.
A graduate of Southern Seminary in Louisville, where he earned his Doctorate, he is survived by his wife, Melinda; children, Steve and Rachel; and three grandchildren.
Longtime pastor of First Baptist Church in Springfield Jeff Rollins died Feb. 15 in a single-car accident. He was 55.
Rollins, who was from Savannah, had been honored recently for his 25 years of service as the church’s pastor. Earlier last month First Baptist members had presented him with a plaque and a weeklong vacation for his entire family to Tybee Island.
Previously, Rollins had earned degrees from Mercer University and Southeastern Seminary. In 2011 he received his Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Work from New Orleans Seminary.
Rollins is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Melissa, Rachel, and Rebecca; a son, Michael; parents Johnny and Geraldine Rollins; a sister, Joy Sauers; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Eugene Rollins, Jr.
