Hugh Townsend has officially been called to serve as associational missionary for Gwinnett Baptist Association, effective May 15.
The Maryland native is a graduate of Towson State University, Indiana University, and Southwestern Seminary, where he earned both his Masterís and Doctorate degrees. After serving several churches in his home state, Townsend joined the staff of the Home Mission Board in Atlanta in 1990 with the Associational Missions Division.
Remaining with the HMB through its transition into the North American Mission Board, he continued to strengthen associational work in rural and urban areas through his retirement in 2012. He has authored several books, manuals, and leadership materials related to directors of missions in multiple cultural settings.
Townsend had been leading Gwinnett Association as interim director of missions since January 2013.
