Freedom Sound, Jubal Chorus to also lead worship

Freedom Sound will be part of the musical lineup at the Georgia Baptist Convention annual meeting, held in November in Macon. The group, based out of LaGrange, will be on stage Tuesday morning of the meeting.

Georgia Baptists love to sing, and this year’s Convention meeting will be no exception.

In addition to Keith and Kristyn Getty leading the special music on Monday evening, Freedom Sound from LaGrange will be the focal music group on Tuesday morning while the Jubal Chorus will be front and center on Tuesday afternoon.

Freedom Sound was started in the early 1960s by the late evangelist Dr. Frank Gonzales, although it was originally called the God Squad.

Throughout the decades until Gonzales’ death in 1994, Freedom Sound ministered throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Central America. That year his oldest daughter Lisa and her husband Gamaliel (Jay) Hernandez took over the traveling ministry of Freedom Sound.

In 1995, Hugo and Sandy Oropeza from Mexico City joined Freedom Sound full-time, and the two couples of them ministered all over North and Central America until 1999. At that time the couple started First Hispanic Church of LaGrange as a mission of Rosemont Baptist Church.

In early 2000 the Hernandez’s were called to California to be music ministers and co-pastors of Iglesia Monte de los Olivos. Now, nearly 12 years later, they have returned to LaGrange to re-launch Freedom Sound Ministries along with Pastors Hugo and Sandy Oropeza.

Both couple’s children have now joined the vocal team.
