Former Georgia Baptist Convention employee Norma King, of Demorest, died Oct. 3. She was 80.

A native of Philadelphia, PA, King was a member of First Baptist Church in Cordelia. She retired after 15 years with the GBC, having served as administrative assistant to Index editor Bill Neal.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Chester King, of Demorest; daughters Carol Walls, of Lawrenceville, and Paula King, of Toccoa; son Kevin King, of Acworth; sister Phyllis Shackelford and brother Bill Byrd, Jr., both of Houston, TX; and four grandchildren.


Frederick Edmund White, of Tunnell Hill, died Oct. 5. He was 92.

White graduated from Southwestern Seminary and Johns Hopkins University, in addition to serving in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Over a 50-year ministry he served as pastor of churches in South Carolina, Texas, and Georgia, including Grove Level Baptist in his hometown of Dalton.

On the denominational level, White served in the Georgia Baptist Convention evangelism department, the Baptist Convention of Maryland, and the North American Mission Board.

He is survived by his daughters Lajuana Rich, of Atlanta, and Angela Marlin, of Dalton; sons Tim White, of Fairfield, OH, and Dan White, of Flowery Branch; sisters Nancy England and Olive King, both of Atlanta, and Ella Cordle and Nedra White, both of Dalton; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Love McMinn White, and sister, Virginia Lee Albertson.
