The Open Door

I want to encourage every Georgia Baptist to circle next Tuesday on your calendar as an extremely important day. This is the day of the general elections when Georgia Baptists and others will be making critical decisions in the voting booth.

We are blessed in this country to enjoy freedom of expression including the ability to vote in the election process for those we would choose to provide leadership throughout the coming years. Would you please spend these days becoming informed about the positions of the candidates who are up for election? Make sure that the vote you cast is for one who will uphold a position and viewpoint in agreement with what we believe as Christians, and what God teaches us in His Word.

It is time to stand up, be counted, and make a difference in returning America to a place of righteousness and strength.

I was involved in a PrayGa event with Laurens Baptist Association last week where we spent meaningful time praying for those who are in positions of political leadership from our local communities, the state, and the nation. All of us agreed that we have never seen our nation in a more difficult position morally and spiritually than we are at the present time. We all need to be praying for our beloved nation and especially for our national, state, and local leaders.

We have no grounds for complaining about the spiritual and moral degeneration of our country if we are failing to have impact by going to the polls and voting our convictions. Every year I am astonished by the numbers of people who stay at home on Election Day. Quite frankly, we deserve what we get when we refuse to vote and have influence on the process.

Whatever your schedule may look like on Tuesday, please set aside ample time to go to the polling booth and cast your ballot for the candidates who most reflect our position as Christians. It is time to stand up, be counted, and make a difference in returning America to a place of righteousness and strength.
