Longtime Georgia Baptist pastor Clarence Jett, of Palmetto, died Nov. 28. In over 65 years of ministry Jett served in various positions of ministry in Tennessee and Texas as well as the Georgia congregations of New Hope Baptist in Fayetteville, as senior adult pastor, and Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in East Point as minister of music, education, and youth as well as associate pastor. At the time of his death he was serving as pastor emeritus of Jefferson Avenue, having filled the pulpit in July after turning 100 years old. In the photo at left, Jett is preaching on July 7, 2013, two days following his 99th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Maria Lennon Jett. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Barge; a son, C. Steven Jett; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
